Are you a Free Range person?

Are you a Free Range Person?   I am.
Free-Range Kids is a commonsense approach to parenting in these overprotective times.

What is different today then yesterday? Yesterday as in 30/40 years ago. I could list all the nice thing we have now, computer, cell phones, better coffee markers etc; but I'm more interesting in what we left behind. The good old days.

The day where you felt safe to leave your kids in the car while you paid for gas. You let your kids ride their bike to the local store to get candy and milk. Those are the days I'm talking about.

The funny thing is nothing has change, we can still have those days. I was walking into the post office the other night; It was late, around 9:30 pm. I needed to check my P.O. Box. I parked the car and notice another car in the parking lot. My first thought was not to get out. Then I stop, a person is not going to be waiting at the post office for someone to jump on. So I went in. When I walked in a man was walking around, he asked me if I knew where the stamp machine was. "I don't think they have one here". Oh we'll then I guess I'll have to buy some tomorrow. I got my mail and left. I was not scared and I shouldn't be. The post office at 9:30 was/ is not a danger spot.

So what has change? Crime is not worst now then it was years ago, so why are we so afraid to let our kids ride their bike?  I'll tell you. The media, How bad they want you to think it is.

You watch the news, you find out that something has happen to ONE child, Now they make you think it happens all the time, but it’s one child out of thousands in the country. The news is the same every night, It would make one not want to leave the house or eat

Now stop a minute and think.

Has your house been broken into?

Has your car been stolen?

Have you been kidnap?

Do you know someone who has commented a crime?

DUI, Drugs, or a sex crimes?  The chances of you knowing someone who has commented a crime is probable higher then knowing someone who has been a victims of a crime. Why is this?, Because most crimes are not crimes, We just like to throw people in jail because we are “tough on Crimes”  We are arresting people left and right for what we would said is normal behavior years ago, or we would get help for that individual.

So tell me what are you afraid of?  I’m more afraid of committing a crime, then become a victim.

But hey what do I know,, I don't work in the media.
